Harai-chi’s Radio Show “Turn!” Episode 495 Reveals Yuki Iwai’s New NACK5 Program! What’s Shunsuke Sawabe’s Dream of Having His “Own Show”?
Every Thursday night, this addictive radio show that blasts away the sleepiness managed to create another unbelievable moment. It was the 495th episode of “Harai-chi no Turn!”. This broadcast wasn’t just another “episode 495”; in a way, it was a historic turn of events.
A Shocking “Playing It Cool” Revelation! Iwai Gets His Own Surprise Show
Last week, Yuki Iwai mentioned that he had filled in as a guest personality on a NACK5 program. He was casually talking about how he “didn’t know why they called” him and that he had “deep memories with NACK5.” As it turns out, that was all just a setup. The big reveal? Starting this April, Yuki Iwai is getting his very own show on NACK5.
You can imagine how the atmosphere in the studio changed instantly. Armed with a “smoking gun” email from a listener, Shunsuke Sawabe grilled his partner, who was acting like he knew nothing. As Iwai tried to dodge the questions, saying things like “It was decided suddenly” and “I’m just as surprised,” Sawabe dropped a line that hit hard:
“Then I should be able to get my own show in a week, right?”
Despite his long career and hosting many shows, Shunsuke Sawabe has never had a show bearing his own name. Considering this “sorrowful” reality for Sawabe, his passionate interrogation made perfect sense. If a “Shunsuke Sawabe…” show ever actually happens, what would it even be like? No one knows yet, but if that day comes, there’s no way Iwai will be able to play it cool.
Daikon Oroshi Invades Another Station? The Launch of “All Daikon Nippon”
Meanwhile, the comedy duo Harai-chi has been running a series of quirky segment themes on their show: seaweed (Norinori no Turn), bread (Dynamic Paan), and sesame oil salt (Goma Abura Jio). This time, the theme was finally daikon oroshi (grated daikon radish), and they tested out a new corner called “All Daikon Nippon.”
According to Iwai, he’s so into it lately that he sometimes just has a meal of daikon oroshi and rice. The title is clearly a playful nod to a famous show on another network. The segment was as light and fluffy as freshly grated daikon, shaped by listener emails in a way that’s quintessentially “Turn!”—pure creative freedom. There was even an invention corner where they came up with new ways to grate daikon radish. It’s enough to pique anyone’s interest, even if you’re not a “daikon listener.”
Dad Sawabe Suffers a Surprising Defeat in the Taiyaki Wars
This week’s personal story from Shunsuke Sawabe was equally hilarious. When he got home, he found six taiyaki (fish-shaped cakes) filled with custard and buttered red bean paste. Starving, he grabbed one without checking the filling—it was custard. He gave some to the kids—all custard. So, in one go, they had consumed four out of six custard taiyaki.
He nervously asked, “Is it okay that it’s only custard?” The food was safe, but that wasn’t the real issue. His wife was upset because she “wanted to eat custard,” and his daughter added fuel to the fire, saying, “I actually wanted the buttered red bean one.” It sounded like an evening where you could practically hear Dad Sawabe’s reputation at home getting scorched right along with the taiyaki.
The Two from “Harashi”: Now and in the Future
It’s surprising to think that Iwai and Sawabe, whose duo name is inspired by their hometown, have been childhood friends since kindergarten in Harashi, Ageo City, Saitama Prefecture. It was memorable when Sawabe, hosting the show “Bulk Buying ☆ Star Returns a Favor,” passionately said he “wanted to do a location shoot in Harashi.”
Sawabe’s dream of giving a Harley-Davidson scooter to the “lady at Harashi Station” who warmly watched them practice their comedy routines there all those years ago, and their plan to build a sumo ring at Myogenji Kindergarten where they first met, are probably ideas they still hold dear.
What this radio episode showed was Yuki Iwai expanding his solo career while Shunsuke Sawabe, watching with mixed feelings, turns that very complexity into the biggest laughs. This is the duo living out their own version of “Noriboke Manzai”—or rather, a “Noriboke Life”—masterfully maintaining a delicate balance.
Yuki Iwai with his own show, and Shunsuke Sawabe without one. The show “Turn!” will continue, including this very “gap” as part of its charm. What kind of “scene” will unfold next week? We’ll be tuning in at midnight on Thursday to find out.
