Haraiti's Radio Show 'Turn!' Episode 495 Reveals Yuki Iwai's New NACK5 Program! What is Yū Sawabe's Long-Held Dream of a "Solo Hosted Show"?
Every Thursday night, this addictive radio show that blows away the sleepiness managed to stir up an unbelievable atmosphere once again. This was 'Haraiti no Turn!' episode 495. This wasn't just any regular "episode 495"; in a way, it was a historic turning point.
Shocking Revelation of the "Innocent Act"! Iwai Lands a Surprise Solo Show
Last week, Yuki Iwai mentioned he filled in as a guest personality on a NACK5 program. He casually talked about it, saying things like, "I have no idea why they called me," and "I have some deep memories with NACK5." But looking back, that was totally a "set-up." It turns out that starting this April, Iwai will be hosting his own brand-new solo show on NACK5.
Needless to say, the studio atmosphere changed instantly. Armed with a listener's email containing the "smoking gun" evidence, Yū Sawabe grilled his partner, who was trying to play innocent. As Iwai attempted to brush it off with "It was decided so suddenly," and "I was surprised too," Sawabe fired back a line that really hit home:
"So by that logic, I should be able to get my own show within a week, right?"
Despite his long career and hosting numerous shows, Sawabe has never, for some reason, had a solo show of his own. Considering this "unfortunate reality" for Sawabe, it's no wonder his interrogation was so intense. If a show titled "Yū Sawabe's..." were to actually happen, what would it even be about? That's anyone's guess, but if it ever does, Iwai definitely won't be able to play dumb about it.
Grated Daikon Invades Another Station? "All Daikon Nippon" is On Air
Meanwhile, Haraiti has been known for their quirky themed segments, like Nori (Nori-nori no Turn), Bread (Dynamic Paan), and Sesame Oil Salt (Goma Abura Jio). This time, the theme was finally grated daikon radish, and they kicked off a trial run of a new segment called "All Daikon Nippon."
According to Iwai, he's been so into it lately that he sometimes has a meal consisting solely of grated daikon and rice. The title is a clear homage to a famous show on another network, and the segment's content is as fresh and fluffy as "freshly grated" daikon, taking shape from listener emails – that quintessential 'Turn!' freedom. Apparently, there's also an invention corner where they come up with new ways to grate daikon, a concept sure to intrigue even non-"daikon listeners."
Papa Sawabe's Taiyaki Blunder Leads to a Major Loss at Home
This week's peek into Sawabe's personal life was also priceless. He came home to find six taiyaki (fish-shaped cakes) filled with custard and buttered red bean paste. Hungry, he bit into one without checking the filling—it was custard. He gave some to his kids—all custard. That meant he'd single-handedly consumed four out of the six custard ones.
He nervously asked if it was okay that there were "only custard ones," and food safety was cleared. But that wasn't the real problem. There was his wife's anger because "she wanted to eat custard" and then his daughter's remark that "she really wanted the buttered red bean one" that really twisted the knife. Sounds like an evening where Papa Sawabe's standing at home, much like the taiyaki, got a bit burnt.
The Two from "Haraichi": Now and Then
It's surprising to learn that Iwai and Sawabe, whose comedy duo name comes from the Ōaza Haraichi area in Ageo City, Saitama Prefecture, have been childhood friends since kindergarten. It was memorable when Sawabe passionately said he "definitely wanted to film in Haraichi" for his show 'Bulk Buy ☆ Star's Gratitude' before.
Sawabe's dream of giving a Harley-Davidson scooter to the "lady at Haraichi Station" who warmly watched over them practicing their comedy routines there back in the day, and their idea to donate a sumo ring to Myōgonji Kindergarten where they first met—those dreams are surely still simmering somewhere.
What this radio episode showed was Iwai expanding his individual success, and Sawabe watching this unfold with mixed feelings, yet masterfully turning it all into the biggest laugh. It perfectly embodies their "Noriboke Manzai"—or rather, a "Noriboke Life"—showcasing their incredible balance.
Iwai with his solo show, and Sawabe without one. Even this "gap" is part of what will drive Haraiti's 'Turn!' forward. We'll have to tune in again at midnight next week to see what kind of "scene" unfolds next.
