Haraiti no Turn!

Every Thursday night, this addictive radio show that chases away the sleepiness has once again created an unbelievable atmosphere. "Haraiti no Turn!" Episode 495. This broadcast wasn't just another "episode 495"; in a way, it was a historic turn.

A Shocking "Playing Dumb" Reveal! Iwai Unexpectedly Lands His Own Show

During last week's broadcast, they talked about Yuki Iwai appearing as a guest personality on a NACK5 programme. He was casually saying things like, "I don't know why they called me," and "I have deep memories with NACK5." But as it turns out, that was all just a set-up. It was revealed that starting this April, Iwai will be getting his very own flagship show on NACK5.

Needless to say, the atmosphere in the studio instantly changed. Armed with an email from a listener that contained "conclusive evidence," Yu Sabe grilled his partner, who was acting like he knew nothing. As Iwai tried to brush it off with excuses like "It was decided suddenly" and "I was surprised too," Sabe dropped a line that really hit home.

"Then by that logic, I should be able to get my own show in a week, right?"

Despite his long career and having hosted numerous programmes, Yu Sabe has never had a show that bears his name. Considering this "tragic" situation Sabe finds himself in, it's no wonder his interrogation was so intense. If a show titled "Yu Sabe's..." were to become a reality, what would it even be about? No one knows yet, but when that day comes, even Iwai probably won't be able to play dumb about it.

Grated Daikon Invades Another Station? "All Daikon Nippon" Hits the Airwaves

Meanwhile, Haraiti has been developing a series of quirky food-themed segments on their show: seaweed (Nori-nori no Turn), bread (Dynamic Pan), and sesame oil salt (Goma Abura Radio). This time, they finally chose grated daikon as the theme, and test-launched a new segment called "All Daikon Nippon."

According to Iwai, he's been so into it lately that he sometimes just has a meal of grated daikon and rice. The segment title is a clear homage to a famous programme on another station. Its content is as fluffy as freshly grated daikon, shaped by listener emails—a level of freedom that's so typical of "Turn!". They even have an invention corner to brainstorm new ways to grate daikon, which is intriguing even if you're not a "daikon listener."

Dad Sabe's Taiyaki Battle Ends in Unexpected Defeat

This week's personal anecdote from Yu Sabe was also too good. He came home to find six taiyaki (fish-shaped cakes)—custard and butter-an flavour. Hungry, he grabbed one without checking the filling and it turned out to be custard. He gave some to his kids, and theirs were also all custard. So, they managed to polish off four custard ones in one go.

He nervously asked, "Is it okay that it's all custard?", but the food safety was fine. That wasn't the issue, though. His wife was annoyed because "she wanted to eat custard too," and his daughter added salt to the wound, saying "I actually wanted the butter-an one." It seemed like Dad Sabe's standing at home, along with those taiyaki, was going up in smoke that evening.

Two Guys from "Haraiichi": Then and Now

Haraiichi, a district in Ageo City, Saitama Prefecture, is also the origin of their comedy duo's name. It's surprising to think that Yuki Iwai and Yu Sabe have been childhood friends since kindergarten there. Previously, on a show Sabe hosted called "Bangkai ☆ Star Ongaeshi," it was memorable how passionately he said, "I really want to film on location in 'Haraiichi'."

Sabe's dream of giving a Harley-Davidson scooter to the "aunty at Haraiichi Station" who warmly watched over them as they practised their comedy routines at the local station, or their plan to give a sumo ring as a gift to Myogenji Kindergarten where they first met—these ideas must still be simmering somewhere.

What this radio episode showed us was Iwai expanding his solo opportunities, and Sabe, who watches this with mixed feelings but masterfully turns it into comedic gold. It's like they're living out a "straight man vs. funny man" routine, but in real life—a "straight man vs. funny man life," showcasing their incredible balance.

Iwai with his flagship show, and Sabe without one. This "gap" is part of the story, and Haraiti's "Turn!" will continue. What kind of scene will unfold next week? We'll just have to tune in again at midnight.

This Week's "Haraiti no Turn!" Recap
