Yle Areena Just Got an Update – New Movies & Series to Spot Now (Plus One Warning)

Right then. It's that time of the week again when Yle Areena gets loaded up with new movies and series, and at the same time, a few disappear – the kind you might not even notice until it’s too late. I just spotted that the Areena iOS app has had an update to version 6.4.0. Nothing game-changing on the outside, but it does feel a bit snappier in use. Small improvements you don't really think about until they're there.

Scene from the movie Iron Sky Coming Race

But of course, the real deal is what's actually arriving. This week, Areena has gotten such a load of content that you could easily forget what's about to leave. And that's something to watch out for. Because if you haven't caught two particular films that are leaving real soon, this is your last chance to watch them – or later you can always claim you hated them in advance, which is also a perfectly valid strategy.

New Arrivals to Catch Now

The list is long, so I’ve picked out the ones I’d make a note of myself. This time, Yle has clearly gone for quality over just quantity. There are a few gems here that might slip by if you're only scrolling the front page.

  • Avara luonto – naturally. A new episode this week, taking us to places few have been. These are always top-tier content, and even though they stick around on Areena for a while, there's just something about watching them the moment they drop. It’s the vibe.
  • One of the new movies is one you definitely shouldn't skip. It's Iron Sky: The Coming Race. If the first Iron Sky was wild, this sequel takes things to a whole new level. Nazis on the moon, dinosaur riders, and utterly bonkers action. It’s either completely stupid or genius – and that’s exactly why you need to see it.
  • Also added are two new Nordic drama series, and not the boring kind, but the ones people talk about during lunch breaks. One of them has already garnered critical acclaim in places few dare to venture.

Wait, Hold On – These Are Leaving Real Soon

Because Areena is Areena, as it fills up, it also empties out. And now ten movies are about to leave, some of which are incredibly good. There are Oscar winners and classics you might not always feel like watching, but once they're gone, you'll regret it.

If you want to spend your weekend wisely, I suggest you take a look at that list. There's at least one movie you wouldn't even watch to the end for money – and that just might become your new favourite. But fair warning: if you don’t act now, you’ll be waiting years to see them again.

Why Areena Is Still the One

It’s easy to say that Netflix and other streaming services steal all the attention. And sure, they do. But Yle Areena is still the place to find the quirkiest, strangest, and often the most important content. The fact that iOS version 6.4.0 is now running smoothly is just a nice technical bonus. What's more important is that here you still find that Avara luonto-style quality and movies you wouldn’t even think to look for elsewhere.

So, as the week begins: update that app if you haven’t already, and go watch the ones that are leaving. Then you can focus on the new arrivals in peace. And if anyone asks why you rewatched Iron Sky, you can just say it was a cultural necessity.
