Yle Areena Has Been Updated – Here Are the New Movies and Series to Check Out Now (Plus One Warning)
Right then. It’s that time of the week again when Yle Areena gets a fresh batch of new movies and series, and at the same time, a few quietly disappear—often without anyone noticing until it’s too late. I just spotted that the Areena iOS app has been updated to version 6.4.0. Nothing earth-shattering on the surface, but it feels a bit snappier in use. Just those little improvements you don’t really think about until they’re there.
But the real deal is, of course, what’s actually landing on the platform. This week, Areena has been loaded with so much new stuff that you could easily forget what’s about to leave. And that’s something to watch out for. Because if you haven’t yet caught two particular films that are disappearing any minute now, this is your last chance to watch them – or you could always claim later that you hated them all along, which is also a perfectly valid strategy.
These New Arrivals Are Worth Grabbing Now
The list is long, so I’ve picked out the ones I’d personally bookmark. This time, Yle has clearly focused on quality over just quantity. There are a few gems here that might slip under the radar if you only scroll through the homepage.
- Avara luonto – naturally. A new episode this week takes us somewhere few have ventured. These are always top-tier viewing, and even though they stay on Areena for a good while, there’s something special about watching them as soon as they drop. It’s just the vibe.
- One of the new films is definitely not one to skip. We’re talking about Iron Sky: The Coming Race. If the first Iron Sky was wild, this sequel takes things to a whole new level. Nazis on the moon, dinosaur-riding warriors, and utterly bonkers antics. It’s either completely ridiculous or pure genius – and that’s precisely why you need to watch it.
- Plus, two new Nordic drama series have been added, and they’re not the dull kind – they’re the ones people end up chatting about during lunch breaks. One of them has already been getting rave reviews in places where praise doesn’t come easily.
But Hang On – These Are Disappearing Any Moment
Because Areena is Areena, as it fills up, it also empties out. And right now, ten films are on their way out, some of which are absolute heavyweights. We’re talking Oscar-winners and classics that you might keep putting off, only to regret it once they’re gone.
If you’re after a quality weekend, I’d recommend having a look at that list. There’s at least one film there you wouldn’t normally watch even for money – and that just might end up becoming your new favourite. But consider this your warning: if you don’t act now, you’ll be waiting years to see them again.
Why Areena Still Reigns Supreme
It’s easy to say that Netflix and other streaming services steal all the attention. And sure, they do. But Yle Areena remains the place for the quirkiest, strangest, and often the most important content. The fact that iOS version 6.4.0 is now running smoothly is just a nice technical bonus. Far more important is that you can still find the quality of Avara luonto here, along with films you wouldn’t think to look for anywhere else.
So, to kick off the week: update the app if you haven’t already, and go watch the ones that are about to leave. Then you can calmly focus on the new arrivals. And if anyone asks why you’re rewatching Iron Sky, just tell them it was a cultural necessity.
