Yle Areena Just Got Updated – Here Are the New Movies and Shows to Check Out Now (Plus One Warning)
Alright, here we are. It’s that time of the week again when Yle Areena gets a fresh batch of movies and shows, while a few others quietly disappear before you even realise they're gone. I just spotted that the Areena iOS app has been updated to version 6.4.0. Nothing earth-shattering on the surface, but it does feel a bit snappier in everyday use. Just those small tweaks you don’t really notice until they’re there.
But the main event, of course, is what’s actually landing. This week, Areena has dropped so much content that it’s easy to forget what’s about to leave. And that’s something to watch out for. Seriously, if you haven’t caught these two particular films that are leaving really soon, this is your last chance to watch them – or you can always claim later that you hated them all along, which is also a totally valid strategy.
These New Arrivals Are Worth Grabbing Now

- Avara luonto – obviously. There’s a new episode this week that takes you to places few have ever been. This is always the highlight, and even though they’ll stay on Areena for a while, it just feels right to watch them the moment they drop.
- One of the new movies is definitely not one to skip. It’s Iron Sky: The Coming Race. If the first Iron Sky was wild, this sequel takes things to a completely different level. Nazis on the moon, dinosaur riders, and absolutely unhinged madness. It’s either utterly ridiculous or genius – and that’s exactly why you need to see it.
- Also added are two new Nordic drama series that aren’t the dull kind, but the ones people talk about during lunch breaks. One of them has already been getting rave reviews in places critics rarely dare to go.
But Hold On – These Are Leaving Any Minute Now
Because Areena is Areena, as it fills up, it also empties out. And right now, ten movies are about to leave, some of them absolute heavy hitters. We’re talking Oscar winners and classics you always mean to watch but never do – and then you regret it once they’re gone.
If you want to spend your weekend well, I’d suggest taking a look at that list. There’s at least one film there you wouldn’t watch even if someone paid you to finish it – and that just might end up being your new favourite. But consider yourself warned: if you don’t act now, you’ll be waiting years for another chance to see them.
Why Areena Is Still the One
It’s easy to say that Netflix and other streaming services get all the attention. And sure, they do. But Yle Areena is still the place to find the most unique, the most quirky, and often the most important content. The fact that iOS version 6.4.0 is now running smoothly is just a nice technical bonus. What matters more is that you can still find quality like Avara luonto here, along with films you wouldn’t even think to look for elsewhere.
