Haramain High-Speed Rail

I'm not exaggerating when I say that the Haramain High-Speed Rail has become a real game-changer in all our lives, especially after the figures that came out recently. Informed sources have revealed that the past two months have seen record-breaking transport numbers, which simply wouldn't have been possible without meticulous planning and a management team working with the highest level of professionalism.

During the past February, operations recorded the transport of over 23 million tonnes of goods, while services accommodated 972,000 passengers travelling between Jeddah, Makkah, and Madinah. As for Ramadan, the numbers were significantly higher, to the extent that those who witnessed the scene first-hand confirmed that the three stations had never seen such high volumes handled with such seamless, fluid efficiency.

The three train stations are the true turning point in the travel experience. Let me highlight what's most important about them:

  • Jeddah Station (Al-Sulaymaniyah): Considered the main gateway, it's designed to serve arrivals from the airport and residents of Jeddah alike to the same high standard, offering integrated services and top-tier car parks.
  • Makkah Station (Al-Rusaifah): Its location speaks for itself, being incredibly close to the Grand Mosque. Passengers step off the train and just a short walk brings them to the holy site – a remarkable engineering feat that's become the talk of the town.
  • Madinah Station: Delivering the same efficiency, it serves visitors to the Prophet's Mosque, saving them a significant amount of time and effort compared to other modes of transport.
The train itself covers the distance between Jeddah and Makkah in under 40 minutes, and between Makkah and Madinah in about two and a half hours – a timeframe that's become well-known to anyone who's used the service.

The authorities in charge of operations haven't rested on their laurels; in fact, they've already begun preparations for the upcoming season. There's talk of increasing the number of services during the Umrah and Hajj seasons, along with expanding some station facilities to accommodate the growing numbers. All of this confirms that the Haramain High-Speed Rail has become a benchmark for mass transit, not just within the Kingdom, but on a global scale.

What truly elevates the experience is the attention to the little details that matter to travellers. Last Ramadan saw thousands of meals distributed to passengers on board the trains and at the stations, alongside real-time monitoring of occupancy rates and guidance to less crowded services. These small touches are what made citizens and residents alike feel they were experiencing a world-class service of the highest calibre.

As someone who regularly uses the Haramain High-Speed Rail, I can honestly say it has become my first choice for travel between the three cities. Every time I board it, I notice service improvements and new additions that make me proud that this achievement is Saudi, delivered by Saudi hands.
