Dacia Striker Teaser

It's been less than a week since the first camouflaged prototypes surfaced online – now Dacia is officially giving us a first look at what's coming. The new Dacia Striker is set to be no ordinary wagon. The name says it all: "Striker." And true to form, this thing is all about attack, both in looks and concept.

What immediately grabs your attention is the silhouette. Clean lines, a steep tailgate, and that characteristically high shoulder line – some might spot a striking resemblance to the current VW Golf, especially in the side profile. But while you'd need to dig deep for a Golf, Dacia stays true to its formula. The Striker is shaping up to be the compact class's new value champion. Built on the proven CMF-B platform (familiar from the Sandero and Jogger), it offers space for five and plenty of luggage room – ideal for family life or that next trip to the local furniture store.

A wagon for the people – with heart and smarts

Inside, it's all about practicality. No unnecessary frills, but everything you need is there. An 8-inch touchscreen, digital instruments, and plenty of storage cubbies. Boot space? Expect it to easily nudge the 600-litre mark. And under the bonnet? Likely the trusty 1.0-litre turbo petrol with 90 or 110 horsepower – perhaps an ECO-G version running on LPG, as we've come to expect from Dacia. A diesel isn't planned, but let's be honest: at this price point, you don't really need one.

But the Striker aims to be more than just a cheap load-lugger. Dacia has come up with something special to celebrate the connection with the brand and its fans. If you know the brand, you'll know Dacia has been involved in football for years, particularly in Eastern Europe. And that's exactly where the legends come into play.

Striker colours for true fans: The "Car Legend Kit" Edition

To mark the launch, Dacia is releasing a special edition that'll make any football romantic's heart skip a beat. It's called the "Dacia Car Legend Kit Colour" – a brilliant homage to the football heroes of the 90s and 2000s who made waves in the Eastern leagues. There will be three paint finishes, each one dedicated to a genuine striking star:

  • Sebastián Pol Red – A fiery red, named after the Argentine goal-getter who banged them in for fun in the Slovakian league during the 90s. His passion and sheer determination – that's exactly what this colour is meant to convey.
  • Viorel Frunză Blue – A deep, rich blue, reminiscent of the calm authority of the Romanian national striker. Frunză, who once played for Dinamo Bucharest, embodied elegance on the pitch – and the Striker in this blue rolls just as elegantly down the road.
  • Ghenadie Orbu White – Pure, clean, but with a hidden edge. The Moldovan striker, who played for a long time in Romania, was known for his anticipation and nose for goal. This white is the perfect canvas for those who love understatement but still know what they've got.

These special models will be available in limited numbers. Each one also features small emblems on the front wings with the players' likenesses. A collector's item, then – and a brilliant idea to inject a bit of football romance into the often soulless automotive world.

Kiwi launch on the horizon?

Exactly when the Dacia Striker will arrive at New Zealand dealerships isn't officially confirmed yet. But if there's one thing I've learned about Dacia: they don't tend to keep people waiting. I'd tip a launch in late 2026. Pricing? I'll hazard a guess: expect the base version to start around $28,000 NZD. The "Car Legend Kit" edition will naturally cost a bit more – but it'll still be a bargain compared to anything else that even vaguely resembles it.

So, if you're after a stylish, practical, and affordable wagon, and you've got a soft spot for football legends, you'll want to keep your eyes peeled. The Dacia Striker could well be the surprise hit of the year – both on the pitch and on the road.
