Eid al-Fitr takbeers and Eid date in Saudi Arabia

As soon as the last ten days of Ramadan begin, conversations in gatherings and on social media platforms start revolving around the question on millions of minds: when is Eid? Here in Saudi Arabia, we experience a unique astronomical and spiritual atmosphere before every Eid. But this year, the astronomical calculations have been exceptionally decisive, and it seems we are facing a clear scenario that puts minds at ease, especially for those who like to plan their Eid holiday in advance.

Friday, 20 March.. The First Day of Eid al-Fitr Astronomically

Those who review the precise astronomical calculations say the matter is almost settled. Based on accurate scientific data, sighting the Shawwal crescent moon on Wednesday, 29th Ramadan (corresponding to 18th March) is absolutely impossible, whether with the naked eye or even using telescopes. Why? Because the moon will set before sunset on that day, and the conjunction (new moon) occurs after sunset, meaning the crescent will not be present in the sky for us to observe it after Maghrib prayer.

Therefore, as expected, the month of Ramadan will complete its thirty days. Thursday will be the 30th day of Ramadan, and consequently, the first day of Eid al-Fitr astronomically will be on Friday, 20 March 2026, corresponding to 1 Shawwal 1447 AH. This aligns perfectly with the calculations that had favored this date since the beginning of the holy month.

"Eid al-Fitr Takbeers" Return.. And the Spirit Starts from Maghrib

For me, the most beautiful part of Eid night is those takbeers that fill the air. On the night of Thursday, 19 March, after it is officially confirmed that the month has completed its thirty days, the Eid al-Fitr takbeers will resonate from mosques and homes. The takbeers, which begin after Maghrib or Isha prayer and continue until the Eid prayer, are what transform the atmosphere from the worshipful mood of Ramadan to one of joy and gratitude. Don't forget to recite them with your family and children; they give an irreplaceable spiritual boost before the morning of Eid.

Eid Holiday: When Does It Start and When Do We Return?

Great news for those wanting to plan their schedules. The Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development has set the Eid al-Fitr holiday for both the public and private sectors. The holiday will begin at the end of the working day on Wednesday, 18 March, and will last for 4 days. This means that work will resume on Sunday, 22 March, unless there is a modification to the official calendar. It's a golden opportunity to spend quality time with family or even for a short trip.

Eid Night and Returning to the Sound Fitrah (Nature)

Eid al-Fitr is the reward for those who patiently fasted. After a month of fasting and prayer, we welcome Eid with a beautiful Prophetic tradition. On the morning of Eid, it is recommended to start with something sweet (even just a date) before heading out for the Eid prayer. And to wear our best clothes, go to the prayer ground, and recite the takbeers on the way.

Also, remember the importance of giving Zakat al-Fitr before the Eid prayer, to purify the fast and bring joy to the needy so that happiness prevails for everyone. Eid is not just about food and new clothes; it's about strengthening family ties and bringing happiness to others.

Anyway, whether Eid is on Friday as the calculations indicate, or on Saturday in some other countries, the important thing is to welcome it with pure hearts and sincere intentions. Wishing you all a blessed Eid.

  • Expected Date: Friday, 20 March 2026.
  • Holiday Start: End of day on Wednesday, 18 March.
  • Holiday Duration: 4 days (according to the official announcement).
  • Official Sighting: The evening of Thursday, 19 March (29 Ramadan) will be for sighting, but calculations indicate the month will complete.

The coming days just need the official Sharia sighting confirmation from the Supreme Court, but all indicators point towards preparing to welcome Eid al-Fitr on Friday. May you be among those who witness this blessed occasion year after year.
