Milan-Cortina 2026 Paralympic Winter Games: Nine Swiss athletes go for gold – here are the must-watch highlights
Just over a year to go, and then it's time: From March 6 to 15, 2026, the 2026 Paralympic Winter Games will be held in Milan and Cortina. The anticipation is building – and Switzerland is sending a small but highly motivated team to the starting line. Nine athletes will represent our colours, and I'm convinced they'll give us plenty of goosebump moments.
Take, for example, the Para-snowboarder who suffered a horrific accident a few years ago. Many would have given up, but he fought his way back – with a clear goal: "I want to be the best." It's precisely this attitude that defines our entire team. Alongside him, eight other Swiss athletes will compete for medals in disciplines like Alpine skiing, biathlon, and snowboard. I've followed them over the past months, watched them train – the potential is enormous.
Three days you absolutely must circle in red
The schedule for the Milano Cortina 2026 Paralympic Winter Games is packed with thrilling finals. Here are three days you should mark on your calendar if you want to catch Swiss medal chances live:
- Day 1 – The Kick-off: Right from the first day, we're into it with the Alpine skiing downhills and the initial biathlon races. Our speed specialists are always good for a surprise on the fast slopes of Lombardy. The Day 1 highlights promise goosebumps – stay tuned to see if the first podium finish happens as early as opening day.
- Day 4 – Downhill Thriller in Cortina: The fourth competition day puts the men's and women's downhills in the spotlight. In Cortina, they'll tackle icy slopes, demanding nerves and skill. Just the right course for our "cannons." The Day 4 highlights will show who masters the piste best.
- Day 7 – Boardercross Showdown: Then there's Day 7, when the snowboard cross decisions are on the line. Our comeback king will give it his all to realise his dream of gold. I've watched him train – he's faster than ever. The Day 7 highlights will be a celebration for all snowboard fans.
Milan and Cortina: A stage for big emotions
The venues for the Paralympic Winter Games – Milan Cortina 2026 (ITA) couldn't be more different: sophisticated Milan, Italy's fashion capital, meets charming Cortina in the Dolomites. Together, they provide the perfect backdrop for stories of passion, fighting spirit, and triumph. The Italians are known for their enthusiasm – I'm sure the stadiums will be rocking. And our Swiss fans will give it their all to support the team loudly.
So, set your alarms, plan your evenings – these are Games we won't forget in a hurry. Behind every medal is a story worth telling. I'm looking forward to ten unforgettable days – and hopefully, you are too. Let's go, Switzerland!
