Welcome to the latest news on Eid al-Fitr in the UAE. The Ramadan countdown is over, and we're on the verge of the first day of Eid. The atmosphere here is gradually taking on an incredibly festive vibe. Everyone is asking about the Eid al-Fitr 2026 holiday in the UAE, and whether parking in Dubai will be free or not. Let's get started with the news that matters to each one of us.

Parking in Dubai during Eid al-Fitr

Eid al-Fitr 2026 Holiday Dates in the UAE: Public & Private Sectors

The speculation is over and the details are clear. According to official announcements, the Eid al-Fitr holiday schedule across the country is now taking shape. Both federal government entities and the private sector have announced the dates. For the government sector, the holiday begins on Thursday, March 19th and continues until Sunday, March 22nd, 2026, with work resuming on Monday, March 23rd. For the private sector, the holiday is confirmed from Thursday, March 19th to Saturday, March 21st. However, if the month of Ramadan completes 30 days, then Sunday, March 22nd becomes an additional official holiday, meaning many private companies will enjoy 4 consecutive days off. Let's wait for the moon sighting to know for sure.

Free Dubai Parking: Where to Pay and Where Not To?

This is the news that makes drivers in Dubai happiest. The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has officially announced that public surface parking (regular parking spots) will be free during the Eid days, from the first day to the third day of Eid. But attention! Multi-storey parking lots (shaded and covered) will continue to charge fees as usual, with no exceptions. From the fourth day of Eid onwards, regular tariffs for public parking will resume. There's also an important point: some private parking lots managed by companies like "Parkonic" might apply charges during the holiday, as their systems differ from the RTA's. My advice? Check the signage boards before you park.

Dubai Metro and Tram Timings During the Eid Holiday

For those who rely on the Metro or Tram for getting around, there are slight adjustments to the timings to align with the Eid holiday and festivities.

  • Dubai Metro (Red and Green Lines): It will operate from March 18th to March 21st from 5:00 AM until 1:00 AM (the following day). On Sunday, March 22nd, it will open from 8:00 AM until 1:00 AM.
  • Dubai Tram: From Wednesday to Saturday (March 18-21) from 6:00 AM until 1:00 AM. Sunday, March 22nd from 9:00 AM until 1:00 AM.

Early Salary Disbursement Before Eid: A Thoughtful Government Gesture

Our government is always ahead with such humane touches. The Dubai Government has issued a directive for early salary disbursement for government employees, specifically on March 17th, 2026. This measure ensures employees can prepare their Eid essentials like new clothes, gifts, and treats without any financial stress. It's a reminder of the true spirit of Eid – making things easier for people.

Eid Decorations and Gifts: Where to Shop?

The markets are currently bustling with a wonderful crowd. A couple of days ago, I was in Lulu and other places, and people weren't just buying food, but also Eid gifts, fancy chocolate boxes, and even home decorations. There's a huge demand for rectangular gift boxes adorned with satin ribbons, used for wrapping sweets and chocolates, which are a decorative piece in themselves. Also hugely popular is the purchase of star and moon-shaped fairy lights, and curtain lights that add a warm ambiance to the majlis or room. Big stores like IKEA and Max have amazing collections of utensils and serving sets perfect for Eid hospitality.

How to Plan Your Holiday?

If you're one of those who like to spend Eid at a hotel or take advantage of the break for a staycation within the country, my advice is: book directly through hotel websites. Many hotels offer exclusive "Residents Only" deals that include extra discounts on stays and meals, and sometimes a complimentary room upgrade. Finally, don't forget to follow announcements from official sources (WAM) and (RTA) to stay updated on any Eid-related developments.

Eid Mubarak to you and your family. May Allah accept our good deeds.
