Welcome to the latest on Eid al-Fitr in the UAE. The countdown to Ramadan is over, and we're on the verge of the first day of Eid. The atmosphere here is gradually taking on an incredibly festive vibe. Everyone's asking about the Eid al-Fitr 2026 holiday in the UAE, and whether parking in Dubai will be free or not. Let's get into the news that matters to all of us.

Parking in Dubai during Eid al-Fitr

Eid al-Fitr 2026 Holiday Dates in the UAE: Public & Private Sectors

The speculation is over and the plan is clear. According to official announcements, the details for the official Eid al-Fitr holiday across the country are becoming clear. Both federal government entities and the private sector have announced the dates. For the government sector, the holiday begins on Thursday, March 19 and runs through Sunday, March 22, 2026, with work resuming on Monday, March 23. For the private sector, the holiday is confirmed from Thursday, March 19 to Saturday, March 21. However, if the month of Ramadan completes 30 days, Sunday, March 22 becomes an additional official holiday, meaning many private companies will get 4 consecutive days off. We'll have to wait for the moon sighting to know for sure.

Free Dubai Parking: Where to Pay and Where Not To?

This is the news that makes drivers in Dubai happiest. The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has officially announced that public surface parking (regular parking spots) will be free during the Eid days, from the first day to the third day of Eid. But watch out! Multi-level parking lots (shaded and covered) will continue to charge fees as usual, with no exceptions. Starting from the fourth day of Eid, regular tariffs for public parking will resume. There's also an important point: some private parking lots managed by companies like "Parkonic" might charge fees during the holiday, as their systems differ from the RTA's system. My advice? Check the signage before you park.

Dubai Metro and Tram Timings During the Eid Break

For those who rely on the Metro or Tram for getting around, there's a slight adjustment to the schedules to align with Eid timings and events.

  • Dubai Metro (Red and Green Lines): Will operate from March 18 to March 21 from 5:00 am until 1:00 am (the following day). On Sunday, March 22, it will open from 8:00 am until 1:00 am.
  • Dubai Tram: From Wednesday to Saturday (March 18-21) from 6:00 am until 1:00 am. Sunday, March 22 from 9:00 am until 1:00 am.

Early Salary Payments Before Eid: A Thoughtful Government Gesture

Our government is always proactive with thoughtful gestures. The Dubai government has issued a directive for early salary payments for government employees, specifically on March 17, 2026. This measure ensures employees can prepare their Eid essentials like clothes, gifts, and treats without any financial stress. It's something that reminds us of the true spirit of Eid: making things easier for people.

Eid Decorations and Gifts: Where to Shop?

The markets are currently buzzing with a wonderful kind of crowd. A couple of days ago, I was in Lulu and other places, and people aren't just buying food, but also Eid gifts, fancy chocolate boxes, and even home decorations. There's huge demand for rectangular gift boxes adorned with satin ribbons, used for packaging sweets and chocolates, which become a decorative piece in themselves. Buying star and moon-shaped decorative lights, and curtain lights is also very popular, adding a warm and cozy atmosphere to the majlis or living room. Big stores like IKEA and Max have amazing collections of dinnerware and serving sets perfect for Eid hospitality.

How to Plan Your Holiday?

If you're one of those who like to spend Eid at a hotel or take advantage of the break for a staycation within the country, my advice is: book directly through hotel websites. Many hotels offer exclusive 'Residents Only' deals that include extra discounts on stays and dining, and sometimes a complimentary room upgrade. Finally, don't forget to follow announcements from official sources like WAM and Dubai's RTA to stay updated on any new information related to Eid.

Eid Mubarak to you and your family, and may God accept our good deeds.
