Welcome to your latest update on Eid al-Fitr in the UAE. The countdown to Ramadan is over, and we're just on the cusp of the first day of Eid. The atmosphere here is gradually shifting into an incredibly festive vibe. Everyone's asking about the Eid al-Fitr 2026 holiday in the UAE, and whether parking in Dubai will be free or not. Let's get straight into the news that matters to all of us.

Parking in Dubai during Eid al-Fitr

Eid al-Fitr 2026 Holiday Dates in the UAE: Public & Private Sectors

The speculation is over, and the moon has been sighted. According to official announcements, the schedule for the Eid al-Fitr holiday across the country is now clear. Federal government entities and private sector companies have all confirmed the dates. For the government sector, the holiday begins on Thursday, 19 March, and runs through Sunday, 22 March 2026, with work resuming on Monday, 23 March. For the private sector, the official holiday is from Thursday, 19 March, to Saturday, 21 March. However, if the month of Ramadan completes 30 days, Sunday, 22 March, becomes an additional official holiday, meaning many private companies will enjoy a straight 4-day weekend. We'll need to wait for the moon sighting to be sure.

Free Dubai Parking: Where to Pay and Where Not To?

This is the news that really perks up Dubai's drivers. The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has officially announced that public surface parking (regular parking spots) will be free during the Eid holidays, from the first day to the third day of Eid. But heads up! Multi-storey car parks (the shaded and covered ones) will continue to charge fees as usual – no exceptions there. From the fourth day of Eid onwards, regular tariffs for public parking will resume. One more important point: some private parking lots managed by companies like "Parkonic" might still charge fees during the holiday, as their systems differ from the RTA's. My advice: always check the signage before you park.

Dubai Metro and Tram Timings During the Eid Break

For those who rely on the Metro or Tram, there's a slight adjustment to the operating hours to better suit the Eid schedule and festivities.

  • Dubai Metro (Red and Green Lines): Will run from 18 March to 21 March, from 5:00 AM until 1:00 AM (the next day). On Sunday, 22 March, services will operate from 8:00 AM until 1:00 AM (the next day).
  • Dubai Tram: From Wednesday to Saturday (18-21 March), hours are from 6:00 AM to 1:00 AM (the next day). On Sunday, 22 March, it will run from 9:00 AM to 1:00 AM (the next day).

Early Salary Disbursement Before Eid: A Thoughtful Government Gesture

Our government is always proactive with thoughtful touches. The Government of Dubai has issued a directive for early salary disbursement for public sector employees, specifically on 17 March 2026. This move is to ensure employees can prepare all their Eid essentials – new clothes, gifts, and treats – without any financial strain. It's a gesture that really captures the true spirit of Eid, which is about making things easier for everyone.

Eid Decorations and Gifts: Where to Shop?

The markets are currently bustling with a wonderful kind of chaos. I was in Lulu and other places just a couple of days ago, and people aren't just buying groceries, but Eid gifts, luxury chocolate boxes, and even home decorations. There's huge demand for rectangular gift boxes adorned with satin ribbons, used for packing sweets and chocolates – they're a decorative piece in themselves. Buying star and moon-shaped fairy lights, and curtain lights is also very popular, as they create a warm, cosy atmosphere in the living room or majlis. Big stores like IKEA and Max have amazing collections of tableware and serving sets perfect for Eid hospitality.

How to Plan Your Holiday?

If you're the type who likes to spend Eid at a hotel or take advantage of the break for a "staycation" within the UAE, here's my tip: book directly through the hotel's website. Many hotels offer exclusive deals for residents, which include extra discounts on stays and dining, and sometimes even a complimentary room upgrade. Finally, don't forget to keep an eye on official announcements from WAM and the RTA to stay updated on any last-minute changes related to the holidays.

Eid Mubarak to you and your family. Wishing you a joyful and blessed celebration.
