The 2026 Fallas are here, and Valencia smells of gunpowder, festive sculptures, and churros. But, as every year, the biggest headache for visitors (and for those of us who live here) is traffic and parking. The city centre is chaotic, streets are closed off, and the regulated parking zones are completely overwhelmed. Thank goodness Metrovalencia, once again, has gotten creative and offers a fantastic solution: over 1,500 free parking spots at 18 surface-level stations. Basically, they're making it a no-brainer for you to leave your car and travel around comfortably by metro.

Where to park for free with Metrovalencia this Fallas

This initiative is perfect for people living in the metropolitan area or coming from out of town. During these Fallas days, you can leave your car for free in the park-and-ride lots at surface-level stations. They're designed so you can avoid the downtown gridlock and hop on a cool, stress-free metro ride. Here are some of the stations where you'll find available spots:

  • Line 1: Empalme, Sant Isidre, València Sud, Paiporta, Picanya...
  • Line 2: La Canyada, Paterna, Fuente del Jarro...
  • Line 4 (tram): Parc Científic, TVV, Santa Gemma... (ideal for connecting to the centre without any hassle).
  • Line 5: Marítim-Serrería, Ayora, Amistat... although these are underground, surface stations like La Carrasca are also included.
  • Line 9: Alboraia Peris Aragó, Almàssera, Meliana... perfect for those coming from l'Horta Nord.
  • Line 10: The new star of the network. Although it's mostly underground, the Alacant station (connection with Renfe) is a central hub, and surface stations like Camí Reial offer parking options nearby.

In total, there are 18 stations with available parking. Get there early, though, because spots fill up fast, but the service has been working great since Fallas started.

Line 10: the hidden gem that's a lifesaver during Fallas

If you haven't tried Line 10 of Metrovalencia yet, this Fallas is the perfect time. Inaugurated a few years ago, it connects the city centre with the south of the city and Marítim-Serrería, where you can link up with Line 5 and the tram. On days with mascletaes or firework displays, it lets you get to the City of Arts and Sciences and then head to the centre without touching your car. And since it passes through Alacant, if you're arriving by AVE high-speed train, it's your best ally.

Line 4 and Line 9: your allies from l'Horta and the northern area

Line 4 of the tram is another one that's often overlooked, but it's the queen of surface travel. It runs through the entire north of the city, the university area, and gets you to the centre (Pont de Fusta station) in no time. Plus, many of its stops have free parking or nearby areas where you can safely leave your car. Meanwhile, Line 9 covers the entire stretch up to Alboraia and beyond. If you live near the beaches or are coming from the coast, leave your car at one of its stations with parking and you'll be right in the heart of Plaza del Ayuntamiento in 20 minutes.

Safety on the network: from the tragic 2006 accident to modernization

We can't talk about the Valencia metro without remembering the 2006 Metrovalencia accident that was a real turning point. That tragedy, the worst in the history of Spain's metro systems, left 43 people dead and a lingering sadness. But as a society, we learned our lesson. Since then, the network has been completely modernized: automatic braking systems, new trains, renovated tunnels, and a safety culture that is now exemplary. Every time you get on a train, you can tell it's a different metro. More reliable, safer. And that, on busy days like Fallas, is something to be thankful for.

So now you know: if you're heading out to enjoy Fallas these days, forget about taking your car into the centre. Note down the stations with free parking, rely on the Valencia Metro, and focus on what matters: the music, the fireworks, and good company. Enjoy the 2026 Fallas!
