Who would have thought a campfire in the German countryside could cause so much drama? The fifth season of Couple Challenge is heading toward the finish line, and honestly? It's delivered exactly what we hoped for. What's currently streaming on RTL+ and airing on RTLZWEI isn't your average romantic getaway—it's a full-blown psychological pressure cooker for nine more-or-less famous duos. Some are here to prove their love, others to validate their convenience arrangements, and then there are the Petrovic brothers, who basically just want to flex. Time for a camp update, where emotions are running hotter than the $100,000 prize money.

These nine couples are taking on the challenge

The network has really outdone itself this year, assembling a bunch you wouldn't find in the zoo on a Sunday. Nine teams have been battling it out since January 14, with free-to-air episodes airing Wednesdays on RTLZWEI—tonight we're getting another double episode. Meet the contestants:

  • Patrick and Bettina "Texas Patti" Habig: Germany's most famous swingers club couple. Will the chemistry in camp be as good as it is in the club?
  • Virginia and Andrew Weiss: Previously seen with the whole family on "Familie Weiß," now finally getting some alone time.
  • Aleks and Marko Petrovic: The "muscle brothers" and walking testosterone bombs. Their strategy: brute force over tactics—will it pay off?
  • Emmy Russ and Samuel: A strategic pairing that needs to prove they can hold their own not just on the catwalk, but around the campfire too.
  • Liza Waschke and Sebastian Fobe: She's a "Berlin – Tag & Nacht" newcomer, he's a reality TV veteran. A classic win-win?
  • Hendrik and Sophie: The "Celebrity Summer House" winners are now gunning for the Challenge crown. Armed with humour and a pack of cigarettes.
  • Carina and Chika: The married couple who know how to fight—though Chika has one tiny problem: a fear of heights. Not ideal for some challenges.
  • Zoe Saip and Patrik: Temperament meets calm. The only question is who'll drive who up the wall first.
  • Ariel and Joshi Josh – the Secret Couple: The ultimate wildcard. Two strangers meeting for the first time in camp. She's after a hot single, he's hoping for harmony. What could possibly go wrong?

When sparks fly: Ariel vs. Petrovic

Speaking of things going wrong—they did. Not in a funny way, but in a "cameras rolling, full chaos" kind of way. The Petrovic brothers barely set foot in camp before the first blow-up. Ariel (who we'll be seeing in another show soon) couldn't believe her eyes. She and Aleks Petrović have history—and not the good kind. During a previous show ("The 50"), she claims he was so incredibly rude she actually told him to shut up. Her reaction when she spotted him in camp? "He was my biggest fear coming in. I can't stand him. He shouldn't even look at me—he just triggers me."

Aleks, who likes to describe himself as a "masculine man," naturally dismissed this as her chasing airtime and called her a "little drama queen" in confidence to his brothers. Real smart move from someone who talks big. Later, though, he was sobbing to Virginia Weiss about his "broken heart" over his ex—the whole macho man vs. sensitive soul act is honestly something else.

Bodyshaming, beef, and the next blow-up

As if the ongoing clash with Petrovic wasn't enough, drama also erupted among the girls. In a recent episode, things got ugly between Ariel, Emmy Russ, and Sophie. The dispute started over sacred smoking area rights, and suddenly a comment was made about Sophie's body that crossed a serious line. Ariel just laughed it off, but the laugh didn't sit right with viewers. The internet exploded, with accusations of bodyshaming going viral. Ariel was forced to apologise on Instagram, admitting her laugh was "absolutely crap." But did it convince the critics? Probably not.

And while some are apologising, others are already throwing punches in advance. Carina (the one with wife Chika) found Hendrik and Sophie's behaviour in the early episodes "more than awkward" and called them "complete idiots." Sophie fired back immediately on Instagram: "We're not antisocial yet... but I can always become that when needed." Well, that's one way to make your intentions clear.

When does it air? And what's with all the books?

For anyone now officially hooked: new episodes air Wednesdays on RTLZWEI. Tonight (from 10:15 pm) it continues—expect more ball-catching, zipline flying, and desperately trying to keep it together in camp. Can't wait? You can stream episodes a week early on RTL+.

Oh, and here's something interesting: while contestants are gasping for air in camp, plenty of fans at home are grabbing some fitting reading material. Whether it's the psychological thriller "One Perfect Couple" or the dark revenge story "Bound By Hatred"—the drama on bookshelves can be just as intense as what's on TV. And if all the chaos gets too much, maybe some mindfulness with "Breathe with Me" does the trick. Or just dive into "Roman Stories" to see how other cultures navigate relationships. Basically the same as the Challenge—just without cameras.

Stay tuned, folks. The upcoming episodes promise even more fireworks. Whether the Petrovic brothers really end up being the strongest team or whether another alliance spoils their game—we'll be watching.
