We’ve got a classic setup brewing, and it’s going to make for a rough couple of days. The KLTV First Alert Weather team has already hoisted the red flags: we’re looking at a serious outbreak of severe thunderstorms starting later today and rolling right through Saturday.

The folks at the national weather center have already put a big chunk of our area under an elevated risk—that’s a level 3 out of 5—for both today and tomorrow. The main threats? Damaging straight-line winds that could knock down trees and power lines, large hail, and a few quick spin-up tornadoes can’t be ruled out. The window for the worst weather looks to be late afternoon into the evening, then again Saturday afternoon and evening.
