To be honest, usually most people don’t pay much attention to these kinds of public works projects, but this time around, it’s a different story.

As you can see in the photo, the place was packed with folks from Rowan County, and their expressions were dead serious. You could hear voices chipping in from all sides, asking things like, “How much more is this going to cost us on our bills?” and “We’re the ones who’ll end up footing the bill, right?”. Let's face it, living in North Carolina, talk about utility rates is always a sensitive subject, and people are watching closely to see how this expansion will affect the local economy long-term, rather than just being a standalone power plant issue.

But hang on a minute. When you see ‘NC’, it’s not always about heavy topics like that. Lately, there are moments around here when that ‘NC’ prefix makes you feel a swell of pride. That's because the NC State Wolfpack football season is just around the corner. The area in front of the home stadium is already buzzing with kids trying to mimic their heroes, and late into the night, the chatter in the college bars is all about how “this season is going to be different.” And we’re already getting pumped for men’s basketball season too. Word on the street is the roster looks pretty solid this year, so we’re all counting down the days.

And it’s not just sports that get the heart racing. Right now, fans of the NC Dinos in Changwon are probably watching their games with bated breath. As spring really kicks in, the excitement for the start of the baseball season is building. After last year’s disappointment, everyone's eager to see which new player will step up this year; every time we get an update from spring training, the anticipation grows. Honestly, just keeping track of the schedules for the NC Dinos and the NC State Wolfpack can fill up your whole year.

How ‘NC’ is part of our daily lives
