Supplications for the Blessed Night of Power: The Best Duas for the Last Ten Days of Ramadan
Here we are, living through the final spiritually-charged moments of the blessed month of Ramadan. The last ten days bring us an irreplaceable gift: it is Laylat al-Qadr (the Night of Power), about which the Most Gracious said: "is better than a thousand months." Everyone anticipates it, but the question on many minds is: What should we say on this night? How can we ensure our supplications are accepted?
The Most Famous Accepted Duas for Laylat al-Qadr
What makes this night special is that prayer has a different essence; it is an act of worship where mercy becomes manifest. Among the most beautiful narrations from the Prophet ﷺ is a short but profound supplication: "Allahumma innaka 'afuwwun tuhibbu al-'afwa fa'fu 'anni" (O Allah, You are Most Forgiving, and You love forgiveness, so forgive me). This dua combines beseeching Allah through His greatest attribute (forgiveness) with the ultimate request (pardon). Don't hesitate to repeat it hundreds of times; it is at the heart of the accepted supplications for Laylat al-Qadr.
But don't limit yourself to only this. You can also pray with other wordings straight from your heart, such as: "O Allah, on this night, write us among those freed from the Hellfire," or "O Allah, I ask You for guidance, piety, chastity, and self-sufficiency." The key is that the prayer stems from sincerity, and that you feel, as you raise your hands, that you are standing at the door of the King of all kings.
Duas for Self-Protection on This Night
Alongside the virtue of supplication, we should not forget the aspect of seeking protection. On the nights of Qadr, a believer is keen on protecting themselves and their family from all evil. Among the reported duas for self-protection are: reciting Ayat-ul-Kursi after every prayer, and reciting Al-Mu'awwidhatayn (Surah Al-Falaq and Surah An-Nas) three times in the morning and evening. And at night, you say: "A'udhu bi kalimatillah at-tammati min sharri ma khalaq" (I seek refuge in the perfect words of Allah from the evil of what He has created). These words keep you under Allah's protection until morning.
Don't forget that protecting oneself is not only through dua, but also through righteous deeds. Charity on these nights repels calamity, and maintaining family ties lengthens life. Establish a routine of remembrances (adhkar) that bring tranquility to the heart.
Important Deeds in the Last Ten Days
Everyone knows that the last ten days are the final sprint towards Paradise. Here are some actions to help you make the most of this night:
- I'tikaf (Seclusion): Even if it's just for a few hours in the mosque, secluding yourself with Allah increases humility and focus.
- Reciting the Quran: Try to complete the Quran once more during these ten days, and ponder over its verses.
- Persisting in Supplication: Set aside time after midnight, as it is the time of Sahar (pre-dawn) when the Lord descends to the lowest heaven.
- Charity (Sadaqah): Even a kind word is charity, but it is better to give money during these days.
Seize It as the Opportunity of a Lifetime
Do not let these nights pass you by carelessly. You do not know if you will witness them again. Gather yourself and your family, humble yourself before Allah, asking for all the good of this world and the Hereafter that you desire. Ask Him to bless you in your life, your provision, and your children. And remember that the duas of Laylat al-Qadr have no limits; Allah is Generous and loves that His servant asks of Him. Make this night a turning point in your life, and move forward from it towards a bright future with Allah's pleasure.
We ask Allah to accept our righteous deeds and yours, and to make us among those He frees from the Fire on this blessed night. Ameen.
