There's a grief that can't be hidden, and Antonella Elia has never tried to. The TV personality, a guest on a popular talk show last night, wanted to remember her friend and colleague Enrica Bonaccorti with authentic and affectionate words, following Enrica's passing after a long battle with pancreatic cancer. It was a tribute that touched everyone's hearts, but also turned into an important message of awareness.

"Enrica and I used to catch up often away from the set, she was such a sunny and witty person," Antonella began, visibly moved. "I've been reliving so many moments with her these past few days. Like when Mara Venier, laughing, told us about this appetiser Enrica had brought to her place: it was inedible, but Mara never had the heart to tell her! That was so Enrica: generous, even in the kitchen, even if the results weren't always perfect." It was an anecdote that drew a smile from the audience, because it's often in those small, everyday gestures that you see the real person.

The conversation turned more serious when Antonella Elia shared a reflection on the illness that affected her friend. "I know from her oncologist that Enrica was aware from the very first moment that the situation was serious. But she never lost hope, she always looked forward with incredible strength. That's a lesson for all of us: awareness isn't fear, it's the first step to facing things with clarity and courage." Her words carried weight, landing straight in the heart.

Drawing from this experience, Antonella wanted to make an appeal for prevention, talking about pancreatic cancer, often called a "silent killer." "Unfortunately, the early signs are hard to spot, but they do exist. We need to learn to listen to our bodies and not ignore certain warning signs." Here are some symptoms that deserve attention:

  • Persistent abdominal or back pain that doesn't ease with a change in position.
  • Sudden and unexplained weight loss, with no changes to diet or exercise.
  • Jaundice, which is a yellowing of the skin and eyes, often accompanied by dark urine and pale stools.
  • Insomnia or chronic fatigue that doesn't improve with rest.
  • Frequent digestive issues and nausea, sometimes mistaken for simple stomach upsets.

"I don't want to cause alarm, just to remind everyone that prevention and a visit to your doctor can make all the difference," Antonella Elia concluded, as a respectful silence fell over the studio. "Enrica has left us with a great lesson: to live with dignity, to keep smiling through it all, and to never forget to be good to each other. Thanks for everything, Enrica." Her words were met with applause, and who knows, maybe from this grief, a new collective awareness will grow. Because sometimes, the best way to honour those we've lost is to take care of ourselves.
