Go Woo-suk releases 'Hymns & Gospel' flute album... showing a different charm off the mound
The nickname "closer" suits him perfectly. Go Woo-suk, who has firmly established himself as the LG Twins' go-to relief pitcher, has recently been at the centre of a 'secret double life' rumour (?) among baseball fans. It turns out the stoic strongman of the mound transforms into a delicate artist when he picks up a musical instrument!
During the weekend three-game series at Jamsil Baseball Stadium on the 11th, Go Woo-suk took the mound in the bottom of the ninth with his team leading by a single run. He retired the side in order to secure his second save of the season, showcasing his formidable presence with a fastball that topped out at 155km/h. But after the game, an even hotter topic about him was buzzing online: the release of his debut album, 《Go Woo-suk Hymns & Gospel》.
A 'Praise Album' from a Baseball Player? Go Woo-suk's Surprising Transformation
In fact, Go Woo-suk is well-known for his devout faith. He's often been spotted praying before games, and this time he has expressed that faith through music. The album consists of praise songs featuring his own flute playing. Featuring well-known gospel songs and CCM (Contemporary Christian Music) from both local and international artists, it's being described as bringing a sense of peace to listeners.
The album includes a total of 10 tracks, highlighting Go Woo-suk's uniquely calm yet warm flute tones. The title track is 'Amazing Grace', featuring a performance that beautifully reflects his deep, measured breathing.
- Amazing Grace - Title Track
- How Great Thou Art
- 10,000 Reasons (Bless the Lord)
- His Light Within My Soul (내 영혼에 햇빛 비치니)
- I Will Trust in the Lord Alone (주만 바라볼찌라)
A music industry insider shared, "This is the result of Go Woo-suk diligently taking private lessons and practising in his spare time. He said that music has been a great comfort amidst the extreme stress of being a professional athlete. He decided to produce the album to share that comfort with his fans."
A 'Multi-Player' straddling the diamond and the world of music
It's not every day you see an athlete release an album. But through this project, Go Woo-suk is showing his true colours as a 'multi-player'. Fans are reacting enthusiastically, with comments like, "He's an all-rounder who excels at both baseball and music!" and "The contrast between his charisma on the mound and the gentleness on this album is such an unexpected charm."
Meanwhile, it's been reported that Go Woo-suk is planning to perform a track from the album live at a home game this coming weekend, which has fans eagerly anticipating what kind of performance he'll deliver when he picks up a flute instead of a glove.
Go Woo-suk is winning hearts in both sports and music. It's another reason to look forward to his 2026 season.
