Hello everyone! It's that time again – the moment many of you have been waiting for: the Senior Citizens' Pension payment is here. Across the country, the March-April instalment is now being distributed, bringing a bit of financial relief and a reason to smile. If you're still waiting for your payment to arrive, or just want to know exactly when it's your turn based on your surname, we've got all the details, the lowdown, and some friendly advice on how to make this support work hard for you.

Senior Citizens' Pension

When's payday? The alphabetical order we've all been waiting for

The money started going into Banco del Bienestar accounts from Friday 6th March. As usual, payments are being made in stages, following the first letter of your paternal surname. So don't worry if you haven't seen it just yet; your turn is coming. Here's the schedule:

  • A, B, C: Payments started on Friday 6th.
  • D, E, F: Continued on Saturday 7th and Monday 9th.
  • G: Their turn was Monday 9th (some have probably already spent theirs!).
  • H, I, J, K: Payments will go in on Tuesday 10th and Wednesday 11th.
  • L, M, N, Ñ: Due between Thursday 12th and Friday 13th.
  • O, P, Q, R: Saturday 14th and Monday 16th.
  • S, T, U, V: Tuesday 17th and Wednesday 18th.
  • W, X, Y, Z: The final group on Thursday 19th.

If you're still using a passbook, head to your Banco del Bienestar branch with your official ID from your payment date onwards. For those with a card, the money is available from the moment it's paid in, even if you don't get a text alert straight away.

Tips to be a pension pro

Once the money's in your pocket, many of you might be wondering, "how can I make it last?" Here are some cracking tips, based on what the neighbours and the ladies at the market tell me:

  • Priority: health and shopping: First things first, get any medicines you need and stock up on the weekly shop. With prices these days, a fair chunk will go here, but it's the foundation.
  • Treat yourself: It's not all about bills. My mates say they put a bit aside for a weekend barbecue or to buy a little something for the grandkids. Go for it!
  • A rainy-day fund: If you can, put a little bit away (even if it's just a couple of quid) for any emergencies. As they say, "better to have it and not need it, than need it and not have it."
  • Support the family business: Lots of people use the money to buy supplies to keep their little food stall or sweet shop going. That's making your money work twice as hard.

What people are saying: a pension review

I had a chat with folks queueing at the bank, and here's what they told me. Doña Lupita, from the Guerrero area, said: "Son, this money is a godsend, I don't have to keep asking my children for help with my medication." Don Pancho, from Iztapalapa, commented: "I bought myself some new shoes and even treated my wife to a coffee. It's our reward." The truth is, the Senior Citizens' Pension has become a vital income for millions of households. One thing everyone agrees on, though, is to be wary of the friendly folk offering you a "loan" outside the bank; it's best to handle your money inside.

What if my payment doesn't arrive? Last-minute tips

If you don't see the deposit a day or two after your scheduled date, don't panic. There can sometimes be a slight delay. Pop into your nearest Welfare office with your ID and social security number. You can also check your balance on the Banco del Bienestar app or give their helpline a call. The main thing is not to leave it too long, but generally, everything comes through in the end.

All the best to our senior citizens – this support is for you, so you can live with dignity and happiness. So, spend wisely and enjoy life. Catch you next time!
